Poetry That Informed The Amethyst Collection:

Wage peace with your breath.

Breathe in confusion and breathe out maple trees.

Wage peace with your listening: hearing sirens, pray loud.

Remember your tools: flower seeds, clothes pins, clean rivers.

Think of chaos as dancing raspberries,

Imagine grief as the outbreath of beauty.

Wage peace.

Never has the world seemed so fresh and precious.

Don’t wait another minute.

–  Mary Oliver, from “Wage Peace”

About The Amethyst Collection

It is no secret that my life has been in chaos for some time. Recent homelessness, multiple moves, several trips to the emergency room and an ICU stay, excessive financial stress while I went through a brutal divorce, escaping abusive relationships, and all of the anxiety disorders and complex PTSD flaring up because of these situations.

Finding resources to help was an exercise in futility and bureaucratic confusion. I needed calm. I craved serenity and often prayed to my higher power, asking for it.

This brings me to this collection. It is my first cohesive body of work, which was a goal of mine for 2024. I wanted to start working in collections and am finally getting to it!

So why this? Why the Amethyst Collection?

As a color, amethyst represents calm, balance, healing, and inner peace. This is what I needed — I still do — and maybe you do, too.

Gold is inviting and uplifting. For me, this adds depth and security to the work’s vibes. I want warmth and protection. I crave security in life more than anything else because I have had so little of it.

When combined, amethyst and gold are thought to symbolize divine connection. I love symbols and symbolic meanings. I love this interplay between the two colors.

I aim to help cultivate sanctuary, a sacred place in the collectors’ homes, where serenity and grounding coexist.

“The artist is an explorer of the inner world.

We traverse the depths of our psyche and emotions to discover insights through feeling and intuition, then process and transmute trauma, stuck emotions, and life experiences through creative expression.”

— James McCrae

The pieces are created with alcohol inks on Yupo paper. The amethyst ink is partially concocted with genuine amethyst crystals — which I love.

Bring on all the good vibes. Yes, please!

I have found the process of creating the pieces calming in and of itself—meditative, even. Alcohol ink is messy. It does what it wants. It flows and interacts, and I only have so much control over the process. As a recovering perfectionist, I love this. My inner critic simply has to take the backseat.

The flow of tilting the paper to make the ink flow where I am aiming for, again and again, and again and again (cue: this continues for a long time), calms me and brings me into the present moment. Pun intended: it is a flow state of sorts.

I hope this collection allows you to find moments of calm, grounding, and inner peace. I hope these works bring you a soothing yet hopeful experience. I hope they create a small haven of serenity in your life.

Kind Words From Collectors

  • “The beauty of Kait’s art is that you can see yourself reflected so eloquently back at yourself within it. Even though the pieces themselves are beautiful, you see within them the parts of yourself that feel messy & unknowable by anyone. It’s there in the emotion of the painting & you want to point to it & say to someone, “There, see, that’s me - know me there.” I think everyone should have something in their home that they connect to in that way. All of Kait’s art forms - from her poems & creative writing to her paintings, drawings & photographs, have been my great honor to witness to watch evolve over time.”

    - Nichole Capps

  • “I love Kait’s art because it’s an authentic expression of herself & how she experiences the world. Her bold collages evoke a feeling of courage. Her beautifully textured mixed media pieces remind me of the light & darkness inherent in being a human.

    - Ana Iglesias

  • Kait’s art is evocative & makes me feel more deeply. What I enjoy most about her pieces are her skillful use of color & texture. I am always excited to see her new work.”

    - Joy Vanessa

  • “Abstract, yet so richly and peculiarly articulated through brave & expressive mark making, Kait’s art carries you to your own emotional depths. She has found a way with her own unique visual language to lead us to our own bravery, curiosity & and experience of being human.”

    - Ines Karamehmedovic

  • “Kait is a wonderfully loving soul with incredible talent in a wide variety of artistic mediums. Her artistic practice displays impressive diversity & raw beauty, whether it’s with one of her mesmerizing paintings or creative & emotional collages. When she shares her work with us, she also welcomes us into her life with beautiful, powerful & insightful words. Kait embraces play & experimentation in her creative practice. She fully embraces & shares the joy that her artistic process brings her. I love her openness, integrity & truly adore her work.”

    - Ti Buckley

  • “Kait’s enthusiasm for the creative is infectious. The authenticity & honesty evoked in her work is what pulls me in. Her pieces can derive from something as simple as a range of colors to a more personal and deeper connection to self and her life experiences. It is sometimes raw and gestural & other times more considered but it is always from the soul.”
